Quality Assurance for Small Food Suppliers

Details of a new opportunity for small suppliers to acquire a recognised quality assurance standard: "Safe and Local Supplier Approval" (SALSA)

Quality Assurance for Small Food Suppliers

Buyers for large organisations like supermarkets and hotel chains recognise that there are many small local food businesses making excellent traditional or new food products. Many of these suppliers use high quality local ingredients.

Large customers require their suppliers to possess a working quality system. However, quality systems like the BRC Global Food Standard are usually inappropriate, and too expensive to implement, for small businesses.

There is a new opportunity for small suppliers to acquire a recognised quality assurance standard: "Safe and Local Supplier Approval". [SALSA]

This approval scheme has been set up to assist local and regional food and drink producers supply national and regional buyers. There is also a Standard specially designed for small specialist cheese makers.

The scheme is supported by DEFRA and the Food Standards Agency.

If you are a small local supplier and need more information about SALSA visit:

You can download the Standard from the SALSA website.
