Quality Assurance Investment Pays Off for Turkey Producers
A report by the European Food Safety Authority states that almost one third of British turkey flocks being fattened for the food industry are contaminated with salmonella.
However, less than one percent (3 out of 317) of those turkey flocks accredited to Quality British Turkey (QBT) standards tested positive for salmonella.
The Quality British Turkey (QBT) standard for turkey production provides integrated assurance to internationally recognized standards in terms of animal health and welfare, traceability, and food safety.
Quality assurance is sometimes viewed by food manufacturers as just a cost to the business but should be viewed as an investment in quality and safety, and as part of a valuable marketing strategy to raise customer confidence and sales.
